As part of the program of the III International Seminar and VII National Seminar on Public Health Relations with the Press, from November 7th to 11th, an exhibition of cartoons, caricatures, and comic strips on the topic of Covid-19 and its consequences will be held. 25 drawings selected from an open call for professional or amateur designers from all over Brazil and abroad will be on display at Fiocruz Brasília. From August 24th to October 10th, the organizing committee received more than 250 works from 33 different countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Cuba, the United States, the Philippines, Italy, Morocco, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Ukraine. The highlight was Iran, with 35 registered authors. From Brazil, the call received works from the states of Alagoas, Distrito Federal, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo.
The drawings received were evaluated by a group of 19 judges from Fiocruz Brasília and guests, who applied the criteria of creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, layout, and visual impact. “We were very satisfied with the quantity and, above all, with the quality of the works received. Our activity fulfills the objective of showing the power of visual communication for the synthesis, reflection, and criticism of public health issues, both nationally and internationally”, points out Fabiana Mascarenhas, coordinator of the marketing division at the Fiocruz Brasília Communication’s Office.
